Learning Hub

The KS4 Learning Hub is where CFGS students can take advantage of free tuition provided by students from Queen Mary University. We also provide support through our Academic Learning Mentors and Teaching Assistants who are at hand to help students build better study habits and guide them on their revision.
If you would like to receive academic tuition please ask your parent or carer to complete this form, or you can fill in a Central+ form located in student reception and hand to Ms Hudson.

Learning Lounge
Libraries
In the library areas we:
- Provide resources to support coursework and homework assignments
- Provide a calm, orderly and supportive environment for reading and study.
- We are open to students before and after school and during break time and lunchtime.
- Study Support is held from 3.10pm - 5.00pm at the Harley Grove library and until 5.30pm at the Aspire library. Students can use any of the resources in the libraries and can borrow fiction and non-fiction resources. In addition to the networked educational software programmes, the school subscribes to a selection of e-resources such as Britannica Online Encyclopaedia, Complete Issues (Fact File, Essential Articles and Key Organisations), Issues online and Sam Learning.
- Students can book the computers to use before school, after school, break and lunchtime.
Harley Grove Library
Central Foundation Girls' school's library was awarded the Tower Hamlets Schools Library Service 'Gold Library Award' for its services to pupils and staff.
Harley Grove library is a thriving centre of learning used by our whole school community. It has lots of up to date resources for students and staff and a fully stocked fiction section chosen by the librarians and students. Student helpers run the library at break-time and lunchtime and also run our stationary shop. We have 22 networked computers and seating for two classes.
Competitions and reading initiatives are run to encourage reading for pleasure - book tokens and certificates are awarded as prizes every half term.
Aspire Library
The new Aspire library is used by Year 11, Sixth Form students and staff. It houses 21 networked computers, an iPad trolly, and seats 30 for private study and class use.
The Aspire library is a hub for sixth formers and a space in which students can read, work independently or in small groups and revise. We also run numerous student-centred initiatives such as book clubs and the Reading Buddies Scheme that enables our Sixth Formers to go out into the wider community and help younger children with their reading.
Author visits
Author visits of Melvin Burgess, Sarah Mussi, Bali Rai, Sita Brahmachari, Morris Gleitzman, The Two Steve’s (Steve Skidmore and Steve Barlow), Kate Maryon, Karen McCombie, Sufiya Ahmed and Suzanne La Fleur are arranged through the Tower Hamlets Schools Library Service. Some authors that visit talk to whole Year groups and some run workshops with individual classes. Our students also have the opportunity to take part in the LB Tower Hamlets Book Award, The Creative Writing Competition and SLAMbassadors; students who take part have excelled in these events.
I was absolutely delighted to revisit Central Foundation Girls' school recently. It was another fantastic day and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff and pupils were brilliant and made the sessions even more fun than last time. What a wonderful place - a firm favourite of mine. I hope I can come back again soon!

It was an absolute pleasure to share an hour with such a wonderful group of young women. I enjoyed every minute of sharing stories with you about the writing process. As I explained - you are the young people I think of as my readers as I sit at my computer and write. I am so happy that the themes and ideas in 'Jasmine Skies' chimed with you. I hope that I have planted the thought-seed ...that you may also have stories to write... and don't give up... we all aspire to writing a book as beautiful as that carving I showed you. My next book is 'Kite Spirit', it asks the question ' what forms a sense of self?' - a big question but one I think as writers we should spend time thinking about.
