16 – 19 Discretionary Bursary Fund

If you are aged 16 – 19 at the start of the academic year, you will be able to apply for the 16 – 19 Discretionary Bursary, which is paid to students whose household income is below £20,817.

Payments are made following each half-term holiday providing attendance and punctuality are at least 96% with no unauthorised or unexplained absences. The amount received varies depending on individual circumstances (for example distance from school and household income).  Students are required to notify us on application what they intend to use the bursary for.  Application forms are provided at the beginning of September. Applications can be made throughout the year, but if eligible payments will only be made for the half terms following submission. 

For students who are In Care, Care Leavers or who are in receipt of Disability Living Allowance or Personal Independence Payments AND Employment Support Allowance in their own name, they are eligible for a annual bursary of up to £1200. Eligible students must complete the normal application form and provide the relevant evidence, and will be paid each half-term.

CFGS Trustees Bursary

The Trustees of Central Foundation Girls' School have established a number of bursaries for Year 13 students who progress onto university to assist with fees/living expenses or for those undertaking a Level 3 or 4 apprenticeship to assist with associated travel costs and expenses.

There are 2 types of bursary available Open and Discretionary, and both with 2 tiers available to a set number of students.

Open Bursary Tier 1 & 2 - open to all students intending on attending university. Both Tiers awarded to 5 students.

Discretionary Bursary Tier 3 & 4 - open to all students identified as 'Pupil Premium', but with a preference for those who are the first in their immediate family to attend university or start an apprenticeship, or those who attending university away from home. Both Tiers awarded to 3 students.

Students wishing to apply will be invited to complete the application form in the Spring Term of Year 13. The successful applicants will be required to provide evidence of their enrolment at university or apprenticeship at the start of the Spring Term of their 1st year and then at the start of their 2nd and 3rd year with the annual installments to be paid as follows:

Year 1 =  Tier 1 & 3: £2000 / Tier 2 & 4: £1000

Year 2 = Tier 1 & 3: £3000 / Tier 2 & 4: £1000 

Year 3 = Tier 1 & 3: £4000 / Tier 2 & 4: £1000
