Words of Work
The Words for Work programme, delivered is collaboration with the National Literacy Trust, is designed to empower students with the communication skills essential for career success.
Why join?
This programme offers five engaging workshops that develop key literacy and communication skills, bridging the gap between the classroom and professional life. Students will enhance their oral and written communication abilities, build confidence, and gain real insight into workplace expectations. Whether you’re preparing to write CVs or mastering the art of professional conversations, Words for Work equips you with tools for the future.
What can you expect?
- Workshop 1: Kick off with a speed networking session, where you'll meet business volunteers and learn about different career pathways.
- Workshops 2-4: Build your skills in formal writing, role-play workplace scenarios, and practise professional language. You’ll work on CV building, formal emails, and presentations with support from your teachers.
- Workshop 5: Step into a business immersion experience. Participate in mock interviews or deliver an elevator pitch and receive invaluable feedback from professionals.

SAMDA: Student Assisted Medical and Dental Applications

Why join SAMDA?
SAMDA is designed to help motivated Year 12 and Year 13 students make successful applications to medical and dental schools. Through this programme, you’ll receive continuous guidance from current medical and dental students, giving you valuable insights and preparation for every step of the application process—from personal statements to interview skills.
What can you expect?
- Buddy Scheme: You’ll be matched with a current medical or dental student mentor, who will help you with personal statements, interview preparation, and UCAS applications.
- Medical Skills Day: Get hands-on experience with clinical skills, prepare for entrance exams like the UCAT and refine your personal statement.
- Mock Interviews: Practise for multiple-mini or panel interviews with medical students and clinicians, receiving feedback to improve your performance.
- Clinicians’ Evening: Hear from admissions tutors, practising clinicians, and current medical students about their journeys, student finance, and life as a medical or dental student.

What is In2MedSchool?
In2MedSchool is an award-winning charity dedicated to helping students from disadvantaged backgrounds succeed in applying to medical schools. Through 1-to-1 mentorship, hands-on workshops, and access to exclusive resources, you’ll receive the support you need to pursue your dreams of becoming a healthcare professional.
What can you expect from the IAP?
The IAP is designed by doctors and medical students to give you a competitive edge in your medical school application. The programme includes:
- Workshops: Over three workshops per term focusing on medical school applications, NHS insights, and developing your writing and reflective skills.
- 1-to-1 Mentorship: Get personal guidance from a UK medical student or doctor, helping you navigate every step of the process.
- Mock Interviews: Practise multiple-mini and panel interviews to improve your performance and build confidence.
- Personal Statement & CV Reviews: Receive expert feedback on your personal statement and CV to make them stand out.
- Work Experience Opportunities: Gain access to work experience through collaborations with hospitals, GP surgeries, and nursing homes.

- Workshops: Over three workshops per term, covering topics such as personal statements, interview preparation, and entrance exams like UCAT.
- Mock Interviews: Prepare for multiple-mini (MMI) and panel interviews with practising doctors and medical students.
- 1-to-1 Mentorship: Receive personalised support from medical students or doctors, guiding you through your application and interview process.
- Personal Statement & CV Reviews: Expert feedback on crafting a high-quality personal statement and CV.
- Work Experience: Gain early exposure to work placements through collaborations with hospitals, GP surgeries, and nursing homes.
Special Features of the IAP:
- Population Health: Learn about public health, healthy living, and leadership skills, while working on a lifestyle project.
- Interpersonal Skills: Improve critical thinking, communication, and teamwork to excel both academically and professionally.
- Spotlight Sessions: Participate in talks from doctors, case discussions, and learn about chronic diseases such as diabetes, coronary heart disease, and respiratory illnesses.
Additional Support for Medical and Dental Applicants:
- UCAT Workshops: Learn how to master the University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT) through interactive workshops with medical and dental students.
We got taught techniques to use on our UCAT, and got given tips and overview of what the UCAT is.
