Bridging the Gap: Preparing for Post-16 Success

Today, our Year 12 students took part in Bridging the Gap, a high-impact workshop delivered by Positively You.

The session gave students a realistic insight into the increased demands of post-16 education and introduced them to the skills needed to succeed. Through interactive activities, they explored techniques for self-directed study, critical thinking, time management and independent learning – all essential for making a smooth transition into sixth form and beyond.

The session has given me confidence that I am capable to use different techniques for my revision. Layla, Year 12 Student
It gave me a range of ideas on how and why GCSE revision methods were different, which was so important. Faria, Year 12 Student

The workshop also linked learning to future careers, helping students understand how the skills they develop now will support them in achieving their goals. By the end of the session, students left with practical strategies, a clearer picture of the challenges ahead, and the confidence to raise their aspirations. It was an engaging and motivating experience designed to prepare them for the next exciting stage of their education journey.

One new skill I have learned that I can take on to further education is repetitive memory recall, with mind maps. This will help me with my content heavy subjects like Biology, for example when I am learning off diagrams and chunks of information. I feel more confident in my independent learning at home, I didn't have a specific revision routine before, but now I am equipped to make a better one. Saba, Year 12 Student

One insight I have taken away from this session is learning how to effectively use mind maps to remember and recall answers. These revision tips will help me better in higher studies. There are numerous new study methods that were discussed and we were given advice on the transition which will help us tackle the challenges of the post 16 transition. This session was beneficial and presented in a great and engaging manner. Jay is interesting and funny!  Najia, Year 13 Student
Today I have learnt that my memory is better than I thought it was! I managed to learn facts about Muhammad Ali in under 6 minutes. I now know how to manage my time better (for example through priority grid) as I've learnt new strategies of revision, like a clockwise mind map. Mifa, Year 12 Student
The session exposed us to new revision techniques for upcoming exams. Sara, Year 12 Student
