International Women's Day 2026: Give to Gain

In a world often driven by self-interest and competition, the timeless wisdom of "Give to Gain" reminds us of the true value of generosity. This key principle suggests that the more we give whether it be our time, resources, attention, or kindness, the more we stand to gain effortlessly in return, not just materially but significantly in personal growth, joy and true fulfilment.

The concept of “giving” fosters strong relationships, builds trust, and creates a sense of community which you especially see in Central Foundation Girls' School. When we help others, we often find that support and opportunities come back to us in unexpected ways; ways that we could have never imagined but it is those moments and those particular “ways” that we feel the most content and completed. Acts of kindness can inspire a ripple effect by spreading positivity and encouraging a culture of generosity.

“Giving” enhances our sense of purpose and gaiety. Furthermore, scientific studies have shown that helping others releases endorphins, creating a "helper's high". This is due to how it shifts our focus from what we lack to what we can share which is a way of cultivating gratitude and humility; focusing on the greater good and letting that empower us.

Here at CFGS, we were truly honoured to welcome Lady Mayor Dame Susan Langley DBE, who graciously unveiled the ceremonial stone for our new school building. Surrounded by our esteemed teachers and highly accomplished students from CFGS, we shared a moment of anticipation and joy as we prepared for this remarkable, life-changing historic event. Together, we proceeded to the new extension of the Sixth Form building, where we witnessed the Lady Mayor reverently unveil the ceremonial stone, symbolising a new beginning for all aspiring young girls who choose to pursue their education at CFGS.

This event was a heartfelt reminder of those who have "given" to us, through funding and support; not only emphasising but highlighting that “giving” and investing are never truly a loss. Instead, they are seeds of growth that bloom into vibrant, beautiful opportunities in ways we could never have imagined. It was a powerful testament to the enduring truth that generosity and investment will invariably return to us in the most colourful and unexpected forms, enriching our community and inspiring future generations; “giving” and investing can never be a loss.

Ultimately, the distinctive theme "Give to Gain" is about recognising that true wealth lies in our ability to uplift others. By “giving” selflessly, we not only enrich the lives of those around us but also unlock our own potential for growth and fulfilment. In embracing generosity, we find that the greatest gains are often the intangible rewards of compassion and connection. Nevertheless, remember: giving does not mean you are losing anything at all, rather you are gaining something unmeasurable and priceless in return.
