Our LGBTQ+ Poetry Event
During LGBTQ+ History month, our staff and students came together to celebrate the power of poetry! They each selected a meaningful poem to read aloud at our special Poetry Event, sharing words that inspire, empower and reflect the diverse voices of the LGBTQ+ community.
The NEU-sponsored poetry event for LGBTQ+ History month was held in March in the Harley Grove Library. Teachers selected poetry by queer and trans poets from throughout history, from poems written in 610 B.C.E. to poems written in 2025. We shared and discussed these poems and what they meant to us. We even had some impressive live poetry writing from a CFGS student!
It’s Okay
It’s okay to be queer
It’s okay to be trans
It’s okay to be bi
It’s okay to be Asian
It’s okay to be white
It’s okay to be Black
It’s okay to be a Jew
It’s okay to be Muslim
That’s okay.
It’s not okay to judge
It’s not okay to exclude
It’s not okay to keep your feelings bubbled up
It’s not okay to stay quiet
It’s not okay to not fight back.
It’s okay to be you.
