Our Trip to Windsor Castle: A Journey Through History
Our trip to Windsor Castle was truly an unforgettable experience, giving us the opportunity to explore the rich history of one of the oldest and largest occupied castles in the world. Founded by William the Conqueror in the 11th century, Windsor Castle has been home to 40 monarchs – a fact that made the visit even more special.

We started the day with a relaxing 40-minute riverboat tour on the Thames. The cruise took us upstream to Boveney Lock and back, offering stunning views of Windsor Castle, Eton College, Mill House, Windsor Racecourse, and the Brocas Meadows. The peaceful journey was the perfect introduction to the grandeur of Windsor.

After the boat tour, we took a leisurely walk along the iconic Long Walk – a 2.64-mile tree-lined avenue stretching from Windsor Castle to Snow Hill. It was fascinating to learn that this historic path was once travelled by Henry VIII as he awaited the news of Anne Boleyn’s execution. The summer sunshine made the walk even more enjoyable, and we paused to sit on the lush green grass, sharing a peaceful picnic together.

The highlight of the day was, of course, our visit to the castle. Upon entering, we were treated to a private presentation tailored specifically for CFGS. We learned about the captivating history of Windsor Castle, both past and present, while enjoying some delightful refreshments. Exploring the stately rooms felt like stepping back in time, and seeing Queen Mary's Dolls' House – the largest and most famous in the world – was truly remarkable.
We ended our tour with a visit to St George's Chapel, the final resting place of the late Queen Elizabeth. It was a moment of reflection and admiration for the deep history that surrounds Windsor Castle.
The day was filled with incredible sights, fascinating stories, and lasting memories. We left Windsor Castle with a deeper appreciation for its history and a sense of awe for the generations of monarchs who have called it home.
