Student Voices: Insights from Our CFGS6 Transition Day
A few days ago, we hosted our CFGS Transition Day, giving students a chance to discover all that we have to offer at our sixth form. The two days consisted of taster lessons, PSHEE, tutor time, a speech from current CFGS6 students as well an appearance by guest speaker Bobbie Makoni from The Premier League!
Curious about their experience? Here's what they had to say!
Tutor time at CFGS6
My form tutor informed us about what would happen during the day, which helped us prepare for our next lessons. Tutor time was also a great opportunity to socialise with new students, making me feel more confident working in a team with people I am not familiar with. - Nabiha

I was given an opportunity to address any worries I might have had concerning sixth form and I was able to have a better understanding of school and career enriching opportunities at central. - Mariam
My tutor explained how the UCAS system works and why it is crucial for applying to university courses. He also described how apprenticeships operate and how they offer an alternative path into the workforce. - Sara
PSHEE Experience
The session taught me the expectations our teachers have of us and helped me understand how things work in the 6th form block. He explained the purposes of different rooms, which made me feel more confident in this new environment. - Nabiha
It helped me to understand that there are different pathways in life and I do not have to limit my career choices. - Prospective CFGS6 Student
I had discovered that the school was able to help me access many work experience opportunities which would help me explore different career pathways. - Mariam
Exploring Your Academic Interests
The Science lessons have encouraged me to build up my teamwork skills and interact with also new people. The teachers are also really welcoming. I'm learning how different the lessons are structured at A-Level and getting practical experience of my future learning here at CFGS6. - Pakeeza (External Student)
The teachers were very helpful with their teaching methods, which helped me feel confident about choosing psychology. For example, we learned about case studies where both teachers let us discuss why we thought the individuals acted in certain ways. They then provided deeper explanations with psychological insights. - Rayah
I attended the psychology induction lesson and was intrigued by what I would be learning. In the first half, the teacher presented three murder cases, and we had to predict the serial killers' characteristics based on the information. We also learned about their true personalities and motivations for murder. It was engaging, and I had the opportunity to meet new people and discuss our theories. In the second half of the lesson, we explored the biology of the brain, which opened my mind. We learned about a girl living with half a brain and conducted an activity to locate the four lobes of the brain. I enjoyed discovering the fascinating complexities of the brain. -Zainab (External Student)
Today's psychology lesson gave me a clear understanding of the subject and its structure. I enjoyed the fascinating introduction to how our minds work and the factors influencing our behaviour. For instance, we analysed a crime scene to identify the criminal and explore the influences in their life that led to the crimes. Additionally, we conducted an experiment to understand how someone functions with 'half a brain'. This interactive approach highlighted the engaging nature of the subject. It has increased my confidence and excitement about starting sixth form, knowing I'll be studying such intriguing topics. - Meryam
The Health and Social Care taster session is boosting my confidence. I'm certain I want to pursue it in Year 12 and 13 because the introduction has broadened my understanding of how health and social care are interconnected. For example, I aspire to become a midwife and learned about how postpartum depression can affect both the mother and child, considering nature versus nurture. This clarity gives me confidence in my career choice and how this course can benefit me in university applications. - Sara
Being in my Health and Social Care class and seeing what is taught in this lesson is really engaging. I've just learned how to say my name in sign language, which I found fun. I've also enjoyed working in a team with my classmates, doing classwork together. I find these taster sessions really useful as they help me understand what Health and Social Care lessons will be like starting in September. Everything I am learning in this class so far is interesting, and I'm excited to learn more. - Nabiha

Guest Speaker: Bobbie Makoni
Special guest speaker Bobbie Makoni delivers an inspiring speech, as Senior Media Rights and Content Delivery Manager for The Premier League.
My job before allowed me to do some script writing, and editing voice recording which actually set me up in the content business. After a few months I ended up getting a chance to work on the sports desk, at weekends. I managed to network and build relationships through breaks and even over coffee with a lot of people and got my way into sports once they realised my knowledge and potential. This was an opportunity I was born and ready to take! Don't be afraid to take yours! - Bobbie Makoni
